On-Campus Frequently Asked Questions

The questions below include scenarios for on-campus sessions.

Questions for Students

Registering for CWE

Are all students required to attend CWE?

Students are required to participate in orientation. New students enrolling in the fall of 2022 will have a choice between on-campus and virtual options. Students who do not participate in orientation will not be cleared to register for classes until late July and will also be required to attend a one-day orientation session in August. Participation in a Camp War Eagle session is highly advantageous for incoming freshmen.

How do I know which session to register for?

You may register for any CWE session that has space available and in which your college is participating in academic advising. If you attend a CWE session when your college is not participating in advising, you will not be cleared to register for classes.

The session dates with college availability can be found here: auburn.edu/cwe/dates. Remember, your course registration date is determined by your CWE date. Please make sure your calendar is clear for both your session date and your class registration date.

It should also be noted that selecting an earlier session of Camp War Eagle WILL NOT give you an advantage in registering for classes during your course registration period. There will be a similar distribution of seats in core classes provided for each course registration period so that all incoming freshman students who participate in CWE either in person or virtually have an equal chance of selecting necessary and desired courses.

What does it cost to attend CWE on campus?

The Camp War Eagle fee for an on-campus session is $150 per student. The fee for an on-campus session for each parent or guest who registers is $75.

Camp War Eagle fees are applied to your Auburn billing statement and will appear on the first eBill you receive for fall semester in mid-July. No payment is required at the time you sign up for CWE.

Please note that all Camp War Eagle fees are assessed at the time of program registration and are NOT refundable.

I have a disability. What accommodations can be made during CWE?

You’re able to inform us of any accommodation needs for you or your family when you register for CWE. If you did not inform us at that time, please contact the First Year Experience at 334-844-4501. We will make every effort to accommodate you to the best of our ability.

You should also contact Auburn University’s Office of Accessibility at 334-844-2096. Their staff will determine appropriate accommodations to provide support to you throughout your time at Auburn. More information can be found on the Office of Accessibility website.

What if I need to change my session?

Once you register for CWE, it is preferred that you remain in that session. However, if a session change is necessary, please email our office at fyedesk@auburn.edu with all of your available options and we will assist you in finding another available session. This may also change your course registration date. Please email our office from your Auburn University email account.

Please note that all Camp War Eagle fees, including those for registered parents and/or guests, are assessed at the time of Camp registration and are NOT refundable.

Is there a waitlist for orientation sessions?

The 11 sessions hosted on campus are capped at 450 students and are first come, first served. We do not have a waitlist for CWE sessions. However, seats may become available. Please call our office at 334-844-4501 to see if your desired session has become available.

When should I make flight or travel arrangements?

Travel and flight arrangements should not be confirmed prior to scheduling your on-campus orientation session.

Your anticipated departure time from Camp War Eagle will depend on your academic advising. Please refer to the CWE Dates and Registration page for estimated advising dismissal times. Please keep this in mind as you make travel plans. If you are flying out of Atlanta after your session, it would be best to allow approximately five hours of travel time after your advising finishes. This accounts for getting to the airport, the one-hour time zone change, and navigating to your gate.

What if I arrive early for CWE, and what should I bring?

Students who need housing the night before their session begins can indicate this when choosing a CWE session. Housing is provided in our residence halls for students on this night at no additional cost. Roommates are assigned randomly. We do not accept roommate requests at CWE. Housing is not available the night following your session.

Camp Staff will be present and there will be limited social programming scheduled on this night. Dinner opportunities will be made available, but the meal is not provided so be sure to bring sufficient money to eat this night.

It is not necessary to contact us if your plans have changed regarding your early arrival status. Whether you signed up to be an early arrival but are not coming in early, or if you did not sign up to be an early arrival but now need to be one, just adjust your plans accordingly. We will be prepared either way.

If you are spending the night on campus the night before your session, please bring comfortable, casual clothing and comfortable shoes for walking. Toiletries and linens are not provided at CWE. Please bring a pillow and twin XL sheets or sleeping bag, towels, washcloths, and toiletries such as shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.

May I stay with my family the night before my session?

If you come into town the night before your CWE session, you are not required to stay on campus in the residence halls. However, you are required to stay on campus the night of your session.

CWE Session Details

How long does my CWE session last?

Your CWE session will start on day 1 (Monday or Wednesday) at 7:30 am and run through the conclusion of your academic advising on day 2 (Tuesday or Thursday). Please see the CWE Dates and Registration page for more information about when you should expect your academic advising to end. You will also need to be online at 10 am CT on Friday of your CWE session week to register for your classes.

When will I receive details about my CWE session?

You will receive a series of updates from the First Year Experience office to your Auburn account regarding your CWE session. Immediately after registering for your session, you will receive an automated session confirmation to your Auburn email. In early May, a confirmation packet was posted on our website that contains includes things to do before your session, what to bring to your session, and lodging info for your parents and family members. Finally, approximately one week before your session date, you will receive an email to your Auburn account with information regarding your specific session that includes parking directions and a campus map.

You will also receive communication from your academic advisors and other campus departments. It is critical that you check your Auburn email regularly and frequently.

Where will I stay the night of my CWE session?

Students will stay in assigned residence halls on campus. Students are not permitted to stay in off-campus locations during CWE.

What should I bring to my CWE session?

You will need to bring comfortable, casual clothing for both days of CWE and comfortable shoes for walking. Toiletries and linens are not provided at CWE. Please bring a pillow and twin XL sheets or sleeping bag, towels, washcloths, and toiletries such as shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc. We recommend you bring your driver’s license or other form of identification to receive your Tiger Card and a backpack to carry your CWE materials.

You will also need money:

  • If you arrive at CWE the night before the session starts and need to eat dinner.
  • If you are interested in visiting one of the local Auburn businesses before or after Camp War Eagle.

It is highly suggested that you do not bring any valuable items to CWE.

My friend and I are both attending the same CWE session. Can we be in the same group and roommates?

You will be assigned to a small group of students. In order to create the best opportunity to meet new people, you will most likely not be grouped with other students from your hometown or high school. Roommates will be randomly assigned. We do not accept roommate requests.

I have friends that already attend Auburn. Can they visit me or can I visit them while at CWE?

Your CWE schedule is very full, and all portions are mandatory. Therefore, you may not leave campus during CWE. Leaving campus at any time during your CWE session may result in your not being eligible to register for classes during your course registration period.

Academics and Course Registration

When and how will I register for classes?

Course registration for fall semester will take place remotely on the Friday following your Camp War Eagle session. View auburn.edu/cwe/dates for a table listing the session and registration dates. Students who have attended a CWE session and completed all required academic advising responsibilities will be issued a “time ticket.”  The time ticket clears you to register for classes during your course registration period. When you register for your CWE date, you will automatically be assigned a registration date. Please make sure your calendar is clear for both your CWE and course registration dates. Your academic advisors will be available to help you during course registration.

How do I know what classes to register for?

In the advising process, you will learn more about your curriculum and the classes you should enroll in for fall semester.

Will I have a better choice of classes if I participate in an earlier CWE session?

No. Attending an earlier session of Camp War Eagle WILL NOT give you an advantage in registering for classes on your registration day.  There will be a similar distribution of seats in core classes provided for each registration day, so all incoming freshman students who participate in CWE have an equal chance of selecting necessary and desired courses.

Whether you choose the first or last session, you will have the same opportunity for classes.

I have not yet submitted my medical forms. Will I still be able to register for my classes?

The Auburn University Medical Clinic requires all students to turn in a Medical Information Form prior to registering for classes. The medical form should be submitted electronically via Clearwave VacTrak on the AU Medical Clinic website. For more information, click here.

How do I change my major?

To change your major, go to your applicant portal. We recommend doing this as soon as possible, but at least one week prior to your session.

Questions for Families & Guests

Are parents and families required to attend?

The Camp War Eagle family program is not required but is strongly encouraged. This program provides a wealth of information to parents and guests of incoming freshmen to better familiarize them with the university’s programs and services.

If my student did not register me to attend CWE, how can I be added?

Please call our office at 334-844-4501. We can add you to the session.

Where will families stay during CWE?

While on-campus lodging is not provided for parents, there are numerous hotels in the Auburn-Opelika area that are available to Camp War Eagle family members. A block of guest rooms is available at The Hotel at Auburn University. These rooms are offered at discounted rates specifically for Camp War Eagle parents and guests. To make a reservation at this discounted rate, click here, or call 334-821-8200.

Additionally, you may visit Auburn-Opelika Tourism for more information about lodging in the area.

I have a disability. What accommodations can be made during CWE?

Your student had the opportunity to inform us of any accommodation needs for themselves or their guests when they registered for CWE. If they did not inform us at that time, please contact the First Year Experience at 334-844-4501. We will make every effort to accommodate you to the best of our ability.
